NIT Calicut proposed to set up a chain of finishing school programmes for engineering graduates to meet the immediate trained human resource requirements of the IT & ITES industries..As per the directives of MHRD, Government of India, NITs and IITs will conduct finishing school programmes during May-June 2008 ,as was done by some of them last year.

Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) hikes fee
Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) hikes fee
The Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) increased the fees for its two-year post-graduate programme from Rs 385,000 to Rs 600,000.
According to IIM-K director Krishna Kumar , revised fee would come into effect from the next academic session.
The board of directors decided on the hike in line with the decisions taken by other IIMs. The fee structure for the first and second year course of the management course at IIM-K would be Rs 300,000 each.
The Indian Institute of Management-Kozhikode (IIM-K) increased the fees for its two-year post-graduate programme from Rs 385,000 to Rs 600,000.

Telecom major Idea Cellular Ltd and UAE-based telco Etisalat on Wednesday announced a pilot project for mobile money remittance from the Gulf region to Kerala.
The pilot will have Tata Communications as the central hub for services and HSBC India as the banking channel for funds transfer, company officials told reporters here.
The service will enable expat Indian subscribers of Etisalat in Gulf to transfer money to any designated bank account of an Idea subscriber in Kerala.
HSBC will receive the money through UAE bank and will forward it through National Electronic Fund Transfer to one or multiple designated accounts in Kerala.
Tata Communications will coordinate on both the ends and will generate a SMS for the Idea subscribers as soon as the funds are received in the Idea subscriber's bank account.

Shashi Tharoor's professional training academy to open at the Technopark

Former UN under-secretary general Shashi Tharoor's professional training academy will open at the Technopark campus in Trivandrum.
According to Mr.Tharoor ,The academy will be world class with state-of-the-art technology and a leading team of professionals who will train students and develop their English speaking skills. The duration of the course is two months and there will be just 20 students per batch. The fees will be Rs.30,000.
The institute will be inaugurated Wednesday in the presence of Kerala Governor R.L. Bhatia, Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan and Education Minister M.A. Baby.
Tharoor, who is also chairman of Dubai-based Afras Projects India, and Technopark CEO R.K. Nair had inked the agreement to start the Afras Academy for Business Communications last year. The institute will focus on capacity building for young professionals.

Track Kerala private buses via Internet, SMS - private buses going high tech in Kerala.
Dhanus Technologies Limited, a Chennai-based telecommunications company, has bagged an order from the All Kerala Bus Operators Organization to deploy its FleeTrac solution in 10,000 buses.
People will now be able to know where one's bus has reached and how long it will take to reach their stop just through a simple SMS.The system includes a Fleetrac gadget fitted in each vehicle, a GSM modem attached with a remote machine, a stand-alone management station and a web-based solution.
FleeTrac is an integrated vehicle tracking system, which will help display passenger information on multiple media, including SMS, using a centralized network operating center. Web users will also be able to see Google maps to track the movement of buses.
The initiative is expected to provide real-time tracking of the buses using telematics technology, which will provide scheduling information such as location, arrival, departure time of buses and time to destination to the general public through Internet and short text messages.
